Animals are burning in Australia. Here’s how you can help.
Since September of 2019, bush fires have taken over the country of Australia. It has been reported that more than 16,000,000 acres have been burned and at least a dozen fatalities. However, the animals of Australia are taking the biggest hit. It has been estimated that over 480 million animals have been killed.
Australia is known for its vast myriad of exotic animal species, notably the koala, kangaroo, and Tasmanian devil. But these species are facing great danger with the uncontrollable wildfires. Human emergency and response crews, veterinary teams, zoo staff, and an endless number of volunteers are giving all they have to help the hundreds of thousands of animals injured during the bush fires.
Having gone to veterinary school in California, I have seen first hand the tremendous amount of work it takes to take in and care for the thousands of animals that have been injured during a wildfire.
Here are a couple of ways that you can help these animals find the medical care that they need!
1) Donate to WIRES (Wildlife Information, Rescue, and Education Service Inc.)
WIRES has been rescuing and caring for native animals for over 30 years. This organization works under a license issued by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Find more info at:

2) Donate to WWF (World Wildlife Fund)
WWF is one of Australia’s most trusted conservation organizations. They help protect endangered species, address climate change, and much more. Learn more at:

By donating to an organization, it could help provide the emergency help that these animals need. The timeline of species being endangered is only speeding up as the fires continue to burn. Please consider donating to an organization to help provide veterinary/first-aid care to these animals.
*Disclaimer: I do not have any association with either of these organizations. These were two that I found while doing research. Please consider additional research before donating.
